PHOTOGRAPH ON PURPLE GOLD

“VARA PE’ SETTE” COLLECTION – AEOLIAN ISLANDS

The collection of photographic images that I present to you is dedicated

to the places of the soul: first of all, Salina and her six sisters.

“Vara pe’ sette!” …

seven islands, seven notes and colors of the rainbow,

seven chacra and the letters of my name …

seven “maare” which, according to legend, with a formula

magical boats launched at night to sail beyond

borders under the stars of the Aeolian archipelago …

The idea comes from the desire to capture the essence of beauty

which belongs to those places that meet

essential, sacred, like a passionate lover …

thus was born “vara pe’ sette”, the first fruit of a soul journey

which combines art, love and spirituality in a magical one

alchemical combination where everything,

despite its simplicity,

it becomes unique, precious, … inseparable. Pinella

ART IN THE SUITCASE

The oro-graphie are an example of evocative design made of precious heritage and contemporary mentality, where yesterday’s materials and techniques and today’s technologies are combined in the creation of something that goes beyond the decorative object of the souvenir, but becomes a small work precious that becomes a catalyst of emotions since it is the result of a journey in search of joy …

Art in Suitcase is the dream that becomes reality. Symbol of the traveler in search of his own places of the soul, the suitcase becomes a container for new projects and precious souvenirs. The small travel works are produced with quality materials and set in recycled Plexiglas. The formats are cm. 15×15 and 10×10. The triptych is completed by a 5×5 cm miniature. all in Plexiglas and with double gilding.

The photograph is made on 24 K c.a pure gold leaf certified and applied by hand with the gilding technique, on iroko wood.

The ORO-GRAPHIE project was born in 2018.

The subsequent collections are enriched by the Large Format with gold-graphie 20×20 and 30×30, up to cm. 30×90.

From 2021 it is possible to customize the works with customized formats and projects.

The processing requires a painstaking manual and technological commitment, so that ancient and contemporary techniques are combined in a harmonious and functional becoming.

Thus through emotional images the wonderful tourist, historical and cultural places of the Italian territory are promoted and enhanced.

Presentation

Marcello Napoli. Journalist
Between tradition and innovation. Photographic miniatures on gold by Pinella Palmisano

The history and evolution of photography has taken on a temporal springboard in recent years to make it suitable for everyone: just a click, a blink of an eye. Pixels like thousands of insect eyes recompose an image and anyone can make and undo, build and deconstruct sunrises, sunsets, lights in the night, portraits, moments.
From flint to electronics: it is the evolution of man, of Time.
In the small “jewels” of Pinella Palmisano, we find this story enclosed in a few centimeters; not only the one from the early decades of the nineteenth century, but even further back.
The work that has base, passion, profession, photographic practice, truly becomes ``extension and control`` from the mind to the hand to the enjoyment of the eyes.
The iroko wood is cut and prepared, then like a ``copyist``, a medieval scribe, Palmisano fixes the gold on the wood.
The fourteenth-fifteenth-century images that made Tuscany, of Italy that did not yet exist as a political unit, come to mind, the capital of the world of art.
On this precious, shining base, in this ray of sunshine transported to wood, the photographer marries painting, returning to a manual skill that electronics somehow hides.
On that ray of pure gold, the profile of an island, a boat on the shoreline, a page of Mediterranean scrub, stone houses emerge as silhouettes. Black and gold:
don't they remember certain paintings by Klimt? certain shovels?
don't they bring back to mind the Mediterranean sunsets backlight, some fleeting moments of purity and beauty?
In these fragments and landscapes, where infinity is minimal, the horizon is a thought ``there is nothing that is not beauty, order and luxury, calm and voluptuousness``, in the words of Baudelaire.
Pinella Palmisano, has never been satisfied with elsewhere, with the click as it is: looking at these small golden rays and figures will be like for a poet, for the viewer to perceive a sea in a drop.

Speech at the presentation of the exhibition Vara pe seven, photographic miniatures by Pinella Palmisano.
August 2018, Palazzo Marchetti, Salina

For forty years I was a director of Rai ...
The control room has a monitor wall and each monitor corresponds to a camera the camera shows me images where I have to choose the one that excites me the most, the one that gives me the most at that moment and looking at Pinella's work I had a strong emotion: she was able to grasp and tell what each of us probably felt when arriving and experiencing the island, the colors of the island, the mount fossa, the sea that changes light and color depending on where you see it , according to the shot ... the palms our coasts that change blue depending on whether you see them on this side where it is darker or on the other side where it is lighter... all of this excited me and all this she stared at it through the his photographic images on the most precious of metals: gold, therefore the preciousness of our island fixed on gold.
... hearing this story about the seas to which Pinella connects by dedicating the title of his exhibition to them, I was very struck by the memory of women capable of flying, of going far to Australia, to their son, in one night, taking a lamp and take it to Alicudi ... fantastic stories, ... and this made me think that even then women needed to fly a bit far from everyday life, a bit far from what we have to do, necessarily, from what we are obliged to do, if nothing else there is the imagination to be able to fly..
surely there were additives, someone talks about datura or other herbs ... but the truth was that it was the women who flew, not the men, the women who wanted to get up and go, rise ... and that's what Pinella did with the his works
Pinella is flying high, very high ...

Pinella Palmisano reproduced her latest photographic works on gold leaves. In fact, the printing of his latest photographic works evokes the gilding process that was commonly used in painting to reproduce the sky in the so-called primitive paintings or embellish the background of Byzantine icons. The result was that his works, despite being contemporary, have taken on a patina of time where the golden chiaroscuro also
to emerge the references to the procedure of an early experience that dates back to the birth of photography; perhaps even further back, to the first impressions of daguerreotype or ambrotype or calotype or tintype.
The charm of the ancient and the precious is ensured not only by the gold leaf on which the photographic images are printed, but also by the landscapes shown in the contents, in medium and small formats that mostly reproduce the shots in his Salina .
Here is how the photographer artist has built suggestive souvenirs of the enchanting Aeolian islands, beyond the object to be admired in the Plexiglas frames. If the small-format golden images were well fixed to the wooden support, they could be used by less formal ladies also as contemporary cameos, obviously applying a brooch.
